          Early Life and Musical Influences

          Ricky Walters, better known as Slick Rick, was born in South Wimbledon, London, to Jamaican immigrants on January 14, 1965.

          At the age of 14, his family relocated to the Bronx, New York. Rick's distinctive English accent, coupled with the black eye patch he wore due to a childhood accident, set him apart from his peers.

          During his high school years at La Guardia High School of Music and Art, Rick met rapper Dana Dane, who introduced him to the art of rapping and encouraged him to incorporate his English pronunciation into his music.
